An important principle of an internet-based system is information security. Information security is a very important aspect of distributed systems and IoT (Internet of Things) based wireless systems. The attack which is more harmful to the distributed system and IoT-based wireless system is a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack since in this attack, an attacker can stop the work of all other connected devices or users to the network. For securing distributed applications, various intrusion detection mechanisms are used. But most existing mechanisms are only concentrated on one kind of DDoS attack. This paper focuses on the basic architecture of IoT systems and an overview of single intrusion detection systems. This paper presents a single detection method for different DDoS attacks on distributed systems with an IoT interface. In the future, the system will provide support for detecting and preventing different DDoS attacks in IoT-based systems

No abstract.

Are heat shock proteins an important link between type 2 diabetes and Alzheimer disease?

© 2020 by the authors. Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland. Type 2 diabetes (T2D) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) are growing in prevalence worldwide. The development of T2D increases the risk of AD disease, while AD patients can show glucose imbalance due to an increased insulin resistance. T2D and AD share similar pathological features and underlying mechanisms, including the deposition of amyloidogenic peptides in pancreatic islets (i.e., islet amyloid polypeptide; IAPP) and brain (β-Amyloid; Aβ). Both IAPP and Aβ can undergo misfolding and aggregation and accumulate in the extracellular space of their respective tissues of origin. As a main response to protein misfolding, there is evidence of the role of heat shock proteins (HSPs) in moderating T2D and AD. HSPs play a pivotal role in cell homeostasis by providing cytoprotection during acute and chronic metabolic stresses. In T2D and AD, intracellular HSP (iHSP) levels are reduced, potentially due to the ability of the cell to export HSPs to the extracellular space (eHSP). The increase in eHSPs can contribute to oxidative damage and is associated with various pro-inflammatory pathways in T2D and AD. Here, we review the role of HSP in moderating T2D and AD, as well as propose that these chaperone proteins are an important link in the relationship between T2D and AD

Being open, feeling safe and getting creative: The role of team mean openness to experience in the emergence of team psychological safety and team creativity

Although the effects of openness to experience (OTE) on individual creativity are well-established, research on how such effects unfold in a team context is scarce. Drawing on theories of group norms and uncertainty reduction, we argue that team mean OTE leads to a climate of team psychological safety which, in turn, facilitates team creativity. We test our hypothesis over three independent studies, the first comprising 35 business student project teams, the second based on 28 professional teams from the automotive industry, both conducted in the United Kingdom, and the third comprising 24 healthcare teams in Portugal. As predicted, across all three studies, team mean OTE was positively associated with team creativity via the affective emergent state of team psychological safety. Furthermore, the mediating role of team psychological safety remained significant even when accounting for team OTE variance, alternative motivational and cognitive emergent states, namely team promotion focus (studies 1 and 2) and team exploration climate (study 3), as well as empowering leadership (study 3). Finally, in study 3, we examined the differential impact of the two major facets of OTE, intellect, and openness, and found that intellect, but not openness, was responsible for driving the indirect effects. Further analysis did not support alternative perspectives concerning team OTE variance or the interaction between mean and variance. Our findings not only contribute to theoretical understanding regarding the relationship between team personality composition, specifically OTE, and team creativity but also provide much-needed insight into how such effects unfold. We delineate several practical implications for team design and development

The authors wish to make the following corrections to this paper [1]: There are metadata errors in Supplementary Figure S2 and Table 8, which state that isolate 17BRD-035 was isolated from a feedlot in NSW when in fact it came from Queensland. Figure S2 in Supplementary Materials was changed accordingly and was included with a separate document: https://www.mdpi.com/article/10.3390/microorganisms9061322/s1 In Table 8, the ST column for strain P. m 17BRD-035 was changed from NSW to QLD, the correct Table 8 is as follows: Table 8. Resistance profile, RAPD pattern and presence of antimicrobial resistance genes among isolates of Pasteurella multocida (P. m) (n = 28) and Mannheimia haemolytica (M. h) (n = 1) +, present, −, absent. Table (see supplement) The authors apologize for any inconvenience caused and state that the scientific conclusions are unaffected. The original article has been updated

Sensitivity and Specificity of Multiple Kato-Katz Thick Smears and a Circulating Cathodic Antigen Test for Schistosoma mansoni Diagnosis Pre- and Post-repeated-Praziquantel Treatment

Two Kato-Katz thick smears (Kato-Katzs) from a single stool are currently recommended for diagnosing Schistosoma mansoni infections to map areas for intervention. This ‘gold standard’ has low sensitivity at low infection intensities. The urine point-of-care circulating cathodic antigen test (POC-CCA) is potentially more sensitive but how accurately they detect S. mansoni after repeated praziquantel treatments, their suitability for measuring drug efficacy and their correlation with egg counts remain to be fully understood. We compared the accuracies of one to six Kato-Katzs and one POC-CCA for the diagnosis of S. mansoni in primary-school children who have received zero to ten praziquantel treatments. We determined the impact each diagnostic approach may have on monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and drug-efficacy findings
